Mayor and Mayoress floor

The Mayor and Mayoress inspected the replacement floor in the new meeting room with its fine 16th century ceiling and fireplace.
Dry rot (Serpula lacrymans; fortunately with no sign of a fruiting body), beetle attack and rodent damage had been found in the elm joists under the former floor which necessitated the insertion of new joists, improved underfloor insulation and moisture control and new floorboarding.
All the work has been carried out by volunteers.
